Plan Ahead to Meet DOT Compliance Rules

WDTC Can Manage Company’s Drug Testing Programs for 2018

Transportation companies are familiar with the long list of rules and regulations they need to comply with. As another year of dealing with DOT compliance rules comes to an end, the time is now to look ahead to next year and what help your business may need. Wisconsin Drug Testing Consortium (WDTC) works with businesses of all sizes to help them become and stay DOT compliant.

DOT Compliance Regulations to Focus On

  • Electronic logging devices: All fleets across the country must switch to these logs by the end of 2017. Switching before the deadline will provide employees with more time to learn how they work.
  • Keep FMCSA rules handy: All companies with commercial fleet vehicles need to post an up-to-date copy of Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration rules at their business. In addition to posting the physical copy, all drivers need to sign a form saying they received the FMCSA rules and intend to follow them. Work with drivers to make sure they understand the rules that concern them.
  • Screenings: All employees need a negative drug screening result before beginning work and the company needs a random drug testing program in place. All records also need to be kept in a secure location. Partnering with WDTC is an easy way to take care of this action item.
  • Maintain driver logs: The DOT requires companies to keep all driver records up-to-date. Those records include information on how many miles drivers have logged, a list of safety inspections passed and any driver certifications and qualifications.
  • Inspections: Commercial drivers need to complete and record a pre-trip inspection before hitting the road. In addition, they need to complete and record a post-trip inspection.

“By following the rules, you can save your transportation company from time-consuming audits and expensive penalties if any problems are found,” said WDTC President Mike Bray. “Planning ahead for 2018 during the fourth quarter of 2017 to see where you need help, including turning to WDTC to monitor all your drug testing needs, is a smart business decision and WDTC will not have a price increase for services in 2018.”

WDTC helps transportation companies meet DOT compliance rules, including drug testing all new hires, managing random drug testing programs and maintaining all records in a secure location.
